To wrap up 2020, GWAI SIDES is a collection of all the Hong Kong-based soundscapes and experimental tracks amassed over 2017-2020 that didn't make it onto the two albums Sympathetic Resonance [2020] or The Sound of Speed [2019].

These tracks harness the plethora of raw audial stimuli found in the city; everything from eccentrically singing shopkeepers, traditional festivals and their associated tones, broken fridges, late night dusty radios, telephone hotline hold music, jungle creatures, tinny Taoist music from portable speakers...

Whether these sounds are a fresh dive into a foreign land or strike a familiar chord with your own experiences of Hong Kong, I hope they touch some kind of nerve for the listener. For me, HK was my much lived in home for five incredible years that will stay with me forever and live on in these tracks and their associated memories, beside the many more formed along the way that keenly haunt me now that I am back 'home' in locked-down England.
